My mom and I always get in fights over the same thing: me wanting a summer job. She tells me that I’m too young to have a job, and that I should enjoy my childhood. The reason I want a job is so I can have money of my own, to spend on my own. I hate asking my mom for money; I absolutely DREAD it. I feel so guilty when I take her money. When I actually have money and I try to pay for something, my mom won’t let me. She wants me to save my money, so she ends up paying for whatever it is. I hate that as well. I want a lot of things, and if I had a job, I could pay for all of those things. I really want a summer job so I can pay for my own stuff, without having to get my mom to spend her money on me. Wouldn’t you think my mother would be happy about this?

I’m 14, and I’m qualified to work at Zaxby’s, Firehouse Subs, or Chick-Fil-A. I’m sure there are other places as well, but those restaurants are in my town.

I mean, I’m a straight A student. I don’t get in a lot of trouble, and I’m an all-around good kid. What can I do to convince my mom to let me get a job?
Trust me when I say I can work at my local Zaxby’s, Firehouse Subs, or Chick-Fil-A. I’ve been there. I’ve asked. They’ve told me I could work there.

Jeez, I take one week of vacation and miss all kinds of news. Where to start? • Mesa apparently doesn’t have much of an appetite for organic pizza and Earth-friendly decor. Pizza Fusion , billed as the country’s first “green” pizza chain, has closed its only Arizona location — near McKellips and Recker roads in Mesa — after just nine months. The phone number no longer works, and the chain’s website says, “We’re currently seeking a new site location.” • Chef Aaron May has closed his S

I used to go to a awesome restaurant in Georgia, and I found out they closed out of know where. It was called Up the creek in McDonough.

I’m thinking of reopening it, and I contacted the corporation.
But one of my questions is could I be able to reopen a franchised restaurant like Up the creek? I know I have to do lots of cleaning up, and stuff.

I don’t know how long its been closed, it might have been 2 or 3 years.
But is there a reason that the windows on the front doors are boarded up? There’s no other windows boarded up, just the front window on the door.
Note: I’ve been asking myself why it closed for the past year.

Hi,

it’s been a while since I lived here in socal and I’m trying to remember the name of a western themed restaurant my family used to go a few yrs ago when I was younger. It had wooden outside and the booths were wooden and they gave kids coloring books. I remember it was a saloon type of setting and they used to give you the brown rolls before dinner. I used to have a green T-shirt from there and it had a like a cartoon of an old cowboy on it.

My dad thinks it was a Ponderosa Steakhouse somewhere near San Diego/Miramar but I dont remember Ponderosa’s being western themed. He said it like the only one in the franchise to be completed decked out in western gear. Another that came up is the Lone Star, but that didn’t look familiar online.

Plz help me, it’s driving me nuts. thx
YES!!!! It was ClaimJumper!!!! Thanks SOOO much Gremmie. You have no idea how excited I am now!! Thank a lot. I would totally send you a msg. but I dont have the right level or something. THanks again!!!! :-)

I answered a question. The question was a single mum who’s kid had just moved out. I said…Firstly, don’t trust those online things. Most of them are scams, and they aren’t reliable. You need to get your resume updated. There are usually ads in the newspaper for resume writers. Take some courses to make yourself more employable, such as bookkeeping, etc. My aunt, who has previously been a stay at home mum, has got a reception job by taking a few courses and looking. Think about your career dreams and what you really want to do. Write lists, think about what you want in a job. You could apply to be a front office receptionist at a fancy hotel, or a cleaning job. You could apply to a supermarket or other retail store, or factory. If you want to stay at home and work from home, or own your own business, to make the transition process to work then here are some options: -You could try telemarketing. You could do that from home. Call up telstra, optus, 3, and various companies, or look on their websites to see if they are currently hiring. -You could also start your own business making cakes, growing flowers and selling them, breeding dogs, making greeting cards, making soup, selling hand-sewn clothes, etc. and sell through a website, outside a store, through friends, etc. -You could also try taxi driving. Depending on your country, you may need a special licence or may not be old enough, but you could always try once you are eligible. My cousin used to drive taxis. A good place to pick up customers is in the city, at airports, hotels, restaurants, train stations and places like that. -If you are interested in skincare/makeup and/or cleaning produces and/or vitamins and health supplements then I suggest you try selling through pro-ma. Pro-ma works through independent distributors, and you get a competitive sales percentage. Unlike tupperware, your percentage increases the more you sell, and they have free training courses and books that you can buy. Here is their website: http://www.pro-masystems.com.au/ This is the income plan: http://www.pro-masystems.com.au/ You can also ask for help from an existing distributor. -If you have some money saved up, you could own a franchise such as dunkin’ donuts, subway, wendy’s, mcdonalds, gloria jeans, krispy kreme, etc. However, you may be required to work long hours and would most likely need to be on your feet a lot of the time. -You could also be a freelance artist, website designer, writer, etc. You get to make your own hours, and you can work from home. -You could also get into blogging. I know someone who gets their income by making blogs on various topics such as gardening, legal, makeup, cooking, computers, etc. You can buy articles, and you get paid to have advertisements. Or you can save money and write your own articles. -You could also try doing odd jobs such as moving, cleaning, etc for your neighbours. Or, you could do dog walking. Make fliers and send them all over the neighbourhood. The great thing about dog walking is that you get excercise and fresh air, you can work at your own hours, and you get to spend time with animals. You could try and be a house sitter, a sports coach, or volunteer if you can’t get a job. The great thing about volunteering is that it’s easy to get work, and although you don’t get paid, its something great that you can put on your resume. I hope that you find something. Keep looking, and consider being a sales rep for a pro-ma. I think it would be a good, flexible option, plus you could win an overseas holiday! Keep looking :) I did appeal, and it didn’t work.

I have been observing in the UK city where i live, a strange phenomenon of McDonald’s restaurants becoming solely staffed by black or indian staff. In this city we do not have an extremely large population of people from ethnic minorities. If i lived in Manchester or London then i could understand it. I stress this was not the case around 7 years ago so something has changed. I am purely curious.

I have come up with 2 possible theories:

1. Black or Indian people franchise a lot of these restaurants and are choosing to employ those like themselves.

2 McDonald’s are now selling Halal meat so therefore those peole who could not previously handle the meat due to religion can now do so and therefore are taking up the opportunity for work.
It is not affecting me……read above…..i am curious.

SO WHAT’S GOOD ABOUT IT?

It’s an open world environment.
The loading times have significantly decreased.
The CAS studio sims look better than ever before.
The sims have more character traits that make them behave differently.
There are options to vary the characters voices so they don’t all sound the same.
You can customize most decorations in and around the house to allow for personal taste and diversity.

AND WHAT’S BAD ABOUT THE SIMS 3?

The create your own style has limitations as build objects like stairs, roof tiles and chimneys cannot be altered.
No longer is there a cinematic moment when your sim has first kiss, woo hoo, gets engaged, gets married or has a baby.
You can’t start with a blank neighbourhood and place empty lots of varying size to create your own world like in the Sims 2.
The create your own style is limited with such things as making a door the colour you want it but not being able to change the knob.
There are buildings that sims disappear into while working that cannot be decorated/rebuilt and are unmovable, these buildings have no contents.
Bad UV mapping on town roads shows the yellow lines dont match up at the bends, it’s quite obvious from a distance so it becomes annoying and unsightly.
You now have to pay for custom content as EA have made a ruling that sharing custom content for free is violating their rules and could lead to prosecution.
You can’t send your sim shopping, go out to a restaurant or nightclub and actually see the sims, as above they just disappear for a while, nor can you design any of these places in any degree.
Transferred CAS sims lose all their looks in the actual game, texture sizes seem to have been reduced from a 1024×1024 body and 512×512 face to a 256×256 body and a 128×128 face making sims look like dolls with NO realism whatsoever.
A serious problem with pc’s running windows vista makes the game freeze periodically and you have to reset or switch off your system which makes it very hard to feel any progression within the game and risks data loss of which some may be valuable.
The global lighting system in the Sims 3 is very poor, sim shadows are almost non existant, specular artifacts can be seen on objects and sims, due to this textures look too saturated which results in less blending and even more artifacts like colour banding.
One of the main reasons this franchise was so successful was the ability to create your own stuff, there are no options for custom content such as your own textures for floor tiles, walls, pictures or clothing let alone the possibility of an easy way to make new clothing like the TS2 body shop offered.
The patterns and materials that are available to create your own style are hideous and look as if they were made by amateurs or rushed out with no care taken, these things are mostly the only way of customising the game seeing as other previously open avenues have now been closed in order to provide this open world environment.
The available items to choose from in CAS, buy and build mode are pathetic compared to the Sims 2 base game, also the quality of meshes and textures has been dumbed down so much that objects look pixellated and blurry no matter the lod distance between camera and object. Basically the lod system has been overlooked and swept under the rug.
Missing animations like sims opening car doors and getting in, sims just slip in and out and not with grace either, the baby diapers and bottles now disappear and cannot be cleaned up, babies are not changed on a table anymore nor can they be washed in a sink, they magically get clean after a sim spins them in the air and the nappy falls off.
Very few of the textures supplied with the game are suitable for use in any context, it looks like EA games are buying their textures from DOSCH Textures and barely altering them, every decent cg artist knows these are not suitable for games and barely suitable for mental ray rendering. Spending some time on making nice textures would help overcome some major frustrations.

That’s my view after being a avid fan of the sims franchise for years ever since the first game.

What do you think?

I have worked in hotels and other service jobs and have found this policy to be not only a lie, but counterproductive. Consider these examples.

1. I used to manage a pizzeria. We used to just give in to rude customers, even when we knew they were at fault. We found that these customers would usually come back, but that they would always be rude and usually find some way to get their food free or discounted. Finally the owner had enough, and he told me that I could cut these people off. We could even tell them to go somewhere else and even refer them to competitors. When we did this, these same customers stopped complaining and still kept coming back. We found that our profit margin increased by about 5% (a lot in food service). The stress level around the workplace also lowered.

2. The hotel I currently work at is not a franchise. Our policies have been a little harsh, but they have brought less stress on us. If a customer is very rude to us, even if they have a right to complain, often we won’t bend for them. But if a guest is pleasant and professional (you can be upset and still do that), we do everything we can for them. Just a few months ago a couple on their anniversary didn’t have a good stay due to some loud guests. While we can’t control our guests, we gave the couple a certificate for a free stay and free dinner (no restrictions) because they were so professional and courteous. We also felt bad for them. We abandoned the customer is always right belief and have found that our business has not been harmed. Matter of fact, our business has increased about 50% and our profit margin has increased by about 4% (rude customers love destroying hotel rooms). Once again, the stress level has been lower.

So is it just a coincidence or is the customer is always right belief counterproductive? Your thoughts?

Note: The pizzeria has the luxury of being the best pizzeria in town. I have yet to find a pizzeria with better sandwiches or better specialty pizzas. We also were in the Guiness Book of World Records for having the largest commercial pizza.
The hotel isn’t very special, except for the fact that it’s the only one in the city with a restaurant and bar. Honestly I don’t consider it to be very special nor is it the best hotel I have worked at nor stayed at… by far.
dudedud… but if these right customers are always getting their product/room for free or for a substantial discount, how are you making money? Statistics also show that companies that have abandoned this policy have lower health care costs for their employees. That’s another money saver.
v b: Both scenarios happen all the time. I have had to rent out maintence rooms before. One time some guests were so desperate we let them stay in a conference room with cots. They were able to use the pool showers and bathrooms. We didn’t charge them for the stay. They were return customers desperate for a place to stay. We accomodated them at cost to us and at no blame of our own. But since they were nice, we did it for them. Heck, at one hotel the manager let the frequent guest stay at her family’s home (very frequent guest, don’t try that one often). Once again, he wasn’t picky and was pleasant so we helped him out.
